Capitol Hill Baptist Church (CHBC) This ESOL program is designed, developed, implemented, and evaluated by members of CHBC as a volunteer ministry. The program is sponored by these volunteers within the guidelines established by CHBC staff and leaders but is not sponsored or implemented by CHBC staff and leaders. Program Components Saturday Morning Courses The purpose of the courses is to provide individualized reading, writing, and speaking/listening instruction in small classes at three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. All students attend three 45-minute classes with different teachers. Schedule 09:20-09:30 Conversation Café 09:30-10:30 - 1st Period 10:30-10:45 - Break (Café) 10:45-11:15 - Assembly 11:15-12:15 - 2nd Period Friendship Partners The purpose of Friendship Partners is to extend hospitality and help internationals learn more about the American language, culture, country, and/or careers through pairing internationals with CHBC members. Program Information Registration Registration is on-going. Please telephone, email, or come by to register for one or more of the components of the program (Saturday Morning Courses, Friendship Partners, Fellowship Forums, and/or Assemblies and Exhibits). Cost The program is free. Students in the Saturday morning courses will be required to purchase the books for their courses. The cost of books range from $10-$30, and may be returned for a refund at the end of the academic year. Location The program office and classrooms are located at Capitol Hill Baptist Church. The church is near the Capitol South, Eastern Market and Union Station Metro stations. Certificates Students enrolled in the courses are given certificates at the end of the fall and spring semesters. These certificates indicate the number of hours the student attended class, the level of the student, and the percentage of weekly objectives that the student mastered during the semester. Eligibility Men and women (age 18 or over) of all religions, races, and ethnic groups are welcome. Note: Child care is not provided.
